it is part of a social interaction environment and it lowers inhibitions

The reality is that you've consumed more alcohol than your body can process; subsequently you loose motor skills, your reflexes are relaxed to the point of being slow or non-existent, you may become physically ill.

Why?: Because before you become physically ill, before you have the hangover; you're self conscience defenses are lowered. You'll relax, feel like your having a good time, you'll think your funnier than you are, your self-confidence will rise. It's a good feeling. Before you go overboard.

The "skill" is to know when you've reached your peak buzz, this may take a few times. But that's the reason most people drink, they want to cut loose, albeit running away from their demons, even for just a few hours.

I drink, I enjoy drinking, I do however have a designated driver or a cab take me home. No matter what you can come up with, there is NO excuse for driving under the influence. But unfortunately that is also a reality of drinking, you aren't thinking, you feel invincible, and you get behind the wheel and kill someone else, that's the sad reality of it.

first, there's no general reason why people drink, it varies from person to person. to understand why someone drinks you have to understand them and their world and not come at it from outside. so rather then speak generally i'll just talk about why I drink when I do.

First, I generally don't drink when i'm sad or upset or because I want to forget something or somethings bugging me.
Second, sometimes I drink simply because I enjoy the taste of the particular brand I bought.
Third, almost all my drinking occurs in a social setting with friends I enjoy when I feel good. If i'm around strangers and i'm tense I drink less. so for me drinking is something that makes things go smoother socially by relaxing me a little bit and because I enjoy good alcohol. I don't want to forget or pass out or miss something.
Fourth, I'm a bit OCD so drinking, like smoking, gives me something to do. I move my hands a lot and things like that.
Fifth, drinking with someone can feel like a bonding experience.

There are other people that definately drink to escape in a big way. If I do drink to escape I do it in situations when I want to have a good time and feel good and just want to enjoy myself more. and I stop if I feel like i'm losing control or can't participate because I want to be a part of the party not hide from it.

People who drink for the purpose of getting drunk are self-medicating. That means they are unhappy, or they have a chemical imblance in their brains and they are trying to make themselves feel better. Normal, happy people drink lightly in a social setting, but the ones that drink to get trashed are trying to avoid their problems.

i never understood why it takes drinking to have fun ever. i dont drink but most of my friends/family will when we go out and i just dont find the same enjoyment that they have when they drink. when people get drunk it really sucks for the people around them.. and they wont realize it unless they are in that opposite position..

I never could figure out the appeal of drinking.. I don't enjoy the taste of alcohol.. I don't enjoy how I feel when I'm drunk.. I don't have any moral reservations against drinking.. I just don't enjoy it..

drinking temporarily eliminate fears we carrying within...Effect of it well known, sudden lightness, happiness, lovingness but brief, and then fears coming back amplified and overwhelming along with pain, sickness and discomfort...It had been said that fears we collecting is a source of a future illnesses...so we have an opportunity to learn it "now" and do not wait 'till future comes...People drink in order to escape their belonging, their fears...escape is not a solution. Fears will prevail, rather we losing our positive characteristic.
