A political map shows national and state boundaries and the names and locations of cities and towns or in a world context, countries, their borders, and main cities.

A political map emphasizes showing borders (of nations, states, provinces, etc.) and cities over showing natural features.

A physical map is one that places more emphasis on showing natural features (rivers, mountains, lakes, etc.) than on showing borders and cities.
