republicans, democrate, and the always wonderful independant. Republicans are conservative. Dems more liberal than Republicans. Independants are usually a "grass roots" or left wing type of person. Dems are at the top right now because of Bush - they trade power back and forth depending on who the public can be swayed to vote for. The independants are usually not really given too much attention, but of course, Minnesota did elect an independant for their governer once (see Jesse Ventura). I for one do not support the national government system, there is too much power that can be bought. When we had the last presidential election, the people voted one way and the electoral college (elected members of the gov't) voted another. It doesn't matter what the people want, the elected members vote counts for the presidency.

Right now the Democratic party...As you know America has a two party system, unlike some European countries which can have a great many..You often hear criticism of this system but it is misunderstood...as there are liberal and conservatives in both parties..this eliminates in my opinion the often nonsense debates
which take place in European politics were a party that has 1%
support can hold up important issues in red tape..and unknown to most Europeans there are the communist and socialist ..which don't have a big appeal to the American public but they do exist!

You probably know the answer to this, but i'll answer anyway, we just have the Republican and the Democratic parties, the Republicans are right of center, and the dems are just left of center, both are pretty moderate. At the moment it seems the democratic party is the most popular seeing they control both houses of Congress, but that can change at any minute.

There is just a big fight going on here, and we have different parties here, same as you, but it is almost totally Republican or Democrat, put flatly. You can have a Liberal Democrat (communist, really), a Conservative Democrat (mostly Republican), a Libertarian (I have no idea wtf they stand for), a simple democrat, or a brilliant Republican. I have 2 friends who are English, and say they are Conservative, as I say I am, but on some issues, we do not agree. Your country and mine are the same in a lot of ways, but different, too. I think the only thing that matters between us, is that we stay Mates, good ones, no matter that we think differently, on some issues.
It is the heart and soul that make the man/woman, not the political party.
Bless England, and America.
