I'm not entirely clear on what was seen by everyone, but going on my instincts, I would venture to say that you may be speaking about an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) sighting.

While I haven't heard of any such sighting recently, especially in the daylight hours, I must admit that you have peaked my curiosity.

Well I can't see the picture close up but I wouldn't say it isn't a UFO.
Hey I have seen at least two strange objects in the sky in my life time that I can't explain. The belief that we are the only life forms in this huge universe seems hard to grasp for me. There is so much unexplored space yet..............

Is it the thing in your picture? Well if it's that UnidentifiedFlyingObject thing there, I'd guess it's a new technology project or something. If not, might be people playing pranks. If not, I have no idea.
