One environmentally friendly spider killer is a vacuum cleaner. The cleaner the area the less likely it is that a spider will take up residence. Clean often and if one does you'll get it before the spider's grandchildern arrive.

True story. Horse apples. Depending upon which area of the country you live, there is a tree called a bois d'arc, whose fruit is commonly called a horse apple. It's a round, green, bumpy fruit that is NOT edible. Anyway, cut some in half and spread them around (and if possible, under) your foundation. Supposedly they repel all insects. Hope this helps.

When we see spiders coming into our basement I use a
pesticide called Dursban. I spray up the outside foundation about
two feet and out from the foundation three feet. This seems to take
care of the problem for us. We live in Washington state and usually
have this problem in spring and fall.

Scuse me, I have to answer this in a fun way.
If you could bring the spider near your PC and bring up a web site, the spider will see it and go back to its web 'site' then compare the two. It will find the PC web is no match for its web and will leave your home.

go to the country and pick up horse apples from the road side...some people call them hedge apples..they are green, lumpy and about the size of grapefruit..... you should ask the nearest land owner for permission to harvest them or check the local farmers market.

Get a dehumidifier. Spiders like damp areas, keep it dry and clean and they shouldn't bother you.
