I had heard that Age of Empires 2 was released on ps2 in Europe. Is that available for sale anywhere in the United States? Does anyone know of any similar games available on PS2?

Yes, age of empires 2 was released on ps2. It is a reasonably rare game (as it was released before microsoft released xbox)

I bought Age of Empires III for PC and i was really disappointed ;(
Try a different game like Starcraft (old school but a good game) or Warcraft III The Frozen Throne
