I have acquired an RX7, in very good condition, with a blown engine. I need advice on what options there are for fixing this.
It is a first gen car with a 12a, I want to have more power so I might use a 13b...
I am considering all the options that lead to more horsepower, so what about a V8 conversion?
Also, I wondered about the 20b engine.
I have less than 2000 to spend alltogether on this project, and would prefer to come out a lot cheaper than that so that I can replace the oxidized paint before I get rust.
Any advice, or links or anything would be greatly appreciated.

LOL ok so you only have $2000...in order to do the 20b you will need to add another 0 to that figure.

with such a limited budget you are pretty much stuck with rebuiding the 12a. If your lucky you may be able to find a fully dressed 13b but this will put you right at your limit if not a bit over it.

I would suggest you do a lot of reading on rx7club.com....check out the FAQ and classifieds sections search this forum and you find the answer to any possible questions you have.

stick with the 12a unless a 13b falls in your lap. avoid the V8 since that will break your budget and create a mutant with very limited resale value , have you tried Rx7 clubs on a search engine ? good luck

Rebuild the 12a, as stated, unless the 13b 'falls into your lap' (nice!).

20b.. honey.. keep saving.
If you want it to be alot cheaper sell the thing and buy yourself something else..

If its in good shape you'll get decent cash for a rolling chassis..

Good luck.. its a fine car, I hope you get her going..!

good luck as they all will say rotory are very hard to replace because of turbo, non turbo, throttle body, all has to do with the wiring and unless your in calfornia there is not many that will even look at RX7 I own 2 in ohio and they make me pay $500.00 despoit at dealers before they even work on them cause people leave them cost to much to fix spent the 2000.00 and buy another and keep the old one for parts you won't regret it parts are hard to find and costly e- bay has the engines but buy another car

first off I smell BS anyways if you really are considering this call roger mandeville and check with him as to what kind of modds you need to make. the reason i callBS is because you are asking this question. here..The fact that you suposidly already have a 20b in the car says you know what is required to swap motors in the third gen so why are confused if you can swap a 4 rotor in?????????? LOL how much does thid friend want for the motor???????? the first answer; thats not even a real r26b
