I think its because there are so many band names out there already that they had to try and come up with a new different one with out duplicating.

to differentiate themselves from other bands. If they didn't, it would be difficult to know whose album you are buying.. and all bands would all be known as "The Band".
I've always liked the band name: The Butthole Surfers.. and I've wondered.. are they buttholes that surf or do they surf on buttholes???

I don't know, but you have to wonder what kind of state of mind they were in when they came up with the name. Also "Who" came up with the name...lol!!!
