My close friends and I are going to get a tattoo, but it has been a long time since I got mines and the place is closed down. We are looking for someone that knows about tattooing dark skinned people. We are black and need to know what colors will work best, etc........

I am light skinned myself and have a few tattoos of my own. I have found that my skin only holds black ink properly. As far as skin tone goes your colors will depend on how dark your skin actually is and what ink your body will accept with out forcing the color out. Your tattoo should be well thought out alot of people will get something that is "flash art" (the art hanging on the walls in the tatoo parlor). I would call all of the tatoo parlors in your area and talk to someone in each. Set up an appointment to sit with the artists and look at their portfolio. This will give you an example of their work and you will have a chance to see how their work shows on different skin tones. Any good artist will take the time to custom a tatoo for you based on what you want and what will work best on you (you may pay a depost for this service but it is worth it). Most importantly ask for a tour of the facility. You want to make sure that it is clean, all of the materials being used on you have been properly autoclaved. Think of this as a surgery. You are doing damage to your skin that you will live with for the rest of your life so the facility should be clean like a hospital or doctors office. Infections should never be an option. If at any time you feel pushed or uncomfortable with someone at the establishment keep walking there is a hidden reason for it. My advise would be to do your homework so that at the end of the day you are happy with the service you recieved. A tattoo is a permanent form of art and should represent both you and the artists tallent. Good luck with your ink.

Black works best on dark skin... Depending on where you live it would be best to research an artist that is comfortable with tattooing dark skinned people that way the chance of any troubles is minimized.

your best bet is to check in your phone book and see which place has the best rating and feel free to call up several different places because they will be honest with you just straight up ask them what is is you want and that you are dark skinned and I'm sure they will be able to aid you in determining what it is you want to get or whatever.
