There is not "the" Bible; there are many Bibles. What is commonly called "the" Bible in our culture is the collection of writings which were assigned canonical status hundreds of years after Jesus and the apostles lived. The books they trashed were called Apocrypha and Pseudoepigraphica.

Note that the church gave the Bible its authority in Christianity. The Bible is a teaching tool of the church. The authority of the Church does not rest on the Bible. The Church, not the Bible, is the pillar and base of the "truth". The Church is the entire body of all baptized persons. The custodian of Christian doctrine is not the Pope or the Vatican or the wild-eyed fundie preacher waving his Bible and begging for donations. It is the Church.

So serious Christians would do well to pay less attention to the Bible's books and more attention to identifying with the Church.

there are a TON of books in the bible. and as for who wrote them, we don't really know who did, well as far as the Old Testament is concerned. We think that they were mostly just scribes. But the writers of the new Testament are widely Known, mostly because their books were named after them. Matthew Mark, Luke, and John. i've also been told that John was the writer of the Book Of Revelation. There are a few other books in the New Testament, like the Letters, that were mostly written by Paul.
