There are many online sites that you can choose from and one of them is promgirl.com. Prom Girl offers many elegant looking evening dresses so that you can go to the prom in style without busting your budget ! If you wish to find the color that you desire, simply use their online dresses search tool, to find the perfect dress according to your body shape or budget! With many dresses priced at less than $100, you can easily find one that suits your preferences.

In addition, they also have a big collection of celebrity dresses that are similar to what the big hollywood stars are wearing to the grammy awards and ceremonies! I'm sure you will be able to find one that suits your liking.

I would check out resale shops. Maybe not in your direct area, but maybe in a town or two away from you. If you go to a resale shop in your own town, you may end up with something that someone else wore to a recent event at your school.
I found some great dresses for my neice at a resale shop and because we took some of her dresses in to sell, we ended up getting her gorgeous dress for FREE!
Most of the dresses have been wore once, if that, so take in some of your old stuff to a resale shop, and when your stuff sells, you actually get paid! It is great, not just for prom dresses but everything. I do it with all of my clothes, If I dont want them anymore I take them in to my local resale shop, and then as my stuff sells I get 50% of the money, and I get name brand clothes that someone else just got tired of.
I hope it works out for you. Good Luck.
