Coke or Pepsi. Take your pick. In the real world you're not going to notice a considerable difference between them. Either way you get a dual core mobile CPU in the "5600" range that conforms to the "Centrino" or "Turion" spec. Whether you get the AMD or Intel platform really would come to which is a better combined value overall and what other components (RAM, video, hard drive, cost, etc) are in the laptop that make one the better deal over the other.

Right now the Core 2 Duo has the upper hand as far as processing power and power consumption goes.

I don't expect that to remain for very long, but that is the way it is right now.

Core 2 duo T5600 = 1.83 Ghz with 2mb l2 cache
Turion 64 TL-56 = 1.80 with 1Mb L2 cache.

Does AMD nonetheless make processors? Intel is working roughshod over them...and for good reason. The C2Ds are efficient, rapid, and occasional-fee...and AMD has no longer something to compete. no longer an AMD hater...basically a realist.

core 2, accesses memory much faster.. Since dual core outputs two instruction sets at the same time the next place the instructions must go is to the memory. With AMD the two cores must share the HT to the memory. With the core 2 duo they each have there own channel on the FSB, allowing both instructions to access memory at the same time..
