California Gull

2007-02-21 07:22:00 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Seriously, the Utah State Bird is...the California Seagull. True, I swear.
See, there's this story about when the mormons first came to Utah, and had planted their first crops upon arriving...a swarm of locusts came and was eating all the crops, without which they'd starve to death. So Brigham Young prayed for deliverance, and a huge flock of seagulls came from the Great Salt Lake and started eating up all the locusts, and the crop was saved. So that's why it's their state bird, from this "miracle."
Ya gotta wonder, if god was looking out for the mormons, why he let the locusts start eating the crops in the first place...? :)
