Depends on the temperature of the water.
If your water stays above 60F all winter, you do not need to stop feeding them, as they will continute to metabolize and function normally.
If the temperature is between 50 and 60, they will still eat, but much less. You can feed them maybe half of what they used to eat, or even less if they seem lethargic and not hungry.
If the temperature is between 40 and 50, they will eat very little or nothing. At this point, it is best to feed them foods that are high in carbohydrates and low in everything else. This way, they can easily digest the food. Cherrios are good for this.
If the temperature is below 40, then you can stop feeding them altogether.

Gold fish and Koi should stop being fed once the WATER temperatures reach 50 degrees (NOT the air temperatures). Not feeding them at 55-60 they will starve. Where do people get this stuff!

Temperatures need to remain below 50 for more than two days. If you have typical winters in the 20-40 range even though you may have a warming spell where the ice is off the pond DO NOT FEED THEM. Resist.

Your fish enter into a hybernation stage once the temperature ofthe water hits 50. This slows down their metabolism and their activity level. Any food which is still passing thru them will be expelled... If you feed your fish the food will no digest. And they will not pass it causing it to rot and produce toxic gasses in their digestive tract. this will kill the fish. You can purchase a for the lack of better words, colon clense for pond fish at your fish store or garden pond center. The instructions will tell you the same as I have, however you will start feeding them this winterizing food when the temperatures reach 55.

Also, as an added note: NEVER pound or try to break the ice covering your pond. Unlike lakes, shock waves are sent thru the non frozen water cutting into your hybernating fish. This will kill your fish.
You can begin feeding them again once the temperatures of the water remain above 50 for more than a week. (If you already know the cold weather is gone.....as soon as the temps reach 50 start feeding. And they will be hungry!

Feed your fish when it is a stable 50 degrees...and stop when it is consistantly is below 50 degrees. When it is below 50 the fish do not move much and the food does not digest well and also leaves tons on the bottom which can also cause problems.
Sometimes when it gets warm for a few days I am tempted to feed the poor dears but then I think that isn't smart because I would miss seeing the zoom around in the warm weather.

You stop feeding pond fish when the temperature of the water falls below 4C but when it is below 10C you should change their diet to Wheatgerm. That means that generally speaking by the end of October they are onto Wheatgerm (this obviously depends on the climate). As soon as the weather starts warming up you reverse the process i.e. at 4C you start to feed them Wheatgerm and then at !0C back to normal for the summer.

Ditto. even if it really is a posh goldfish and it cost a lot, with the monetary equipment on the area, i'd advise you notwithstanding it in a tank and wait until eventually the iciness is over. as a replace, try putting lively products round your pond.

Stop feeding end of October and start feeding again small amounts of food when the weather starts to warm up, middle to end of March.
