I am looking for possibilities to benchmark online in regards to tracking or being able to estimate the number of visitors of websites which I do not own. Does anyone have a clue/idea where to find such information and which possibilities there are? Thanks.

Update: I am rather talking about larger commercial websites which will not give out information voluntarily, so contacting them directly will not be an option :-(

you could contact the site itself, and ask them how many visitors they get

Email the webmasters and ask... You can be sly about it and say/suggest that a counter on their page would be greatly benefitial to the visitors and customers (or something to that effect). Good luck!
