Well recently Cherokee Indigenious peoples have amended their tribal constitution to exclude The Freemen of their tribe who were former slaves owned by the Cherokee. The Cherokee feel that those descendants from those slaves are not part of their heritage as far as i can understand. As a black man, maybe they are not wrong, i mean whites in america have done this same type of discrimination forever. If one of your parents is of African descent and the other is Caucasian then you are automatically African. Do the Cherokee have that same right that Caucasian have adopted in this country?

I have to say that I have not read up on this topic.

But if I believe what you just said I would have to agree with you.
I am a Native woman. I do not support this decision, in fact I think it is disgusting.

I just have to remember that Some Native people are so oppressed that sometimes they don't think straight especially tribal governments. By this, Oppressed, I mean sometimes these governments forget our traditions and start mimicking the U.S. government. Also please know that tribal governments do not necessarily represent the people.

Can you provide me with more information on this?

THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT WORRY ABOUT RACISTS ARE THOSE THAT HAVE IT WITHIN THEMSELVES. NOT BEING SMART BUT WHY IS IT A BIG DEAL? WHETHER WE ARE WHITE, BLACK, CHEROKEE, CHINESE, JAPANESE, OR WHATEVER RACE WE ARE MIXED. WE ALL ARE HUMAN BEINGS AND BLEED THE SAME COLOR BLOOD. SO THAT SHOULD LET YOU KNOW WE ALL CAME FROM THE SAME PERSON (GOD).

I am Indian but not Cherokee. We have never owned the buffalo people but we do not invite them into our tribe nor council. To us, it is against the natural order to mix our people with the buffalo people such as placing a dove with the crow!
