I would have to say a teacher. Its more hands on and personal. Why do you need one? My fiance plays guitar. BUt we live in Florida.... sorry

Both....get the basics from the CD and then go to a teacher to smooth out the rough patches and correct any mistakes you may be making.
You will save yourself a little money because you will have the basics down and the teacher won't have to take as long teaching you. :-)

get a teacher and u will play like a pro in a lot less of the time. just make sure u get a good teacher.

Definitely with a teacher. CDs can be sketchy, you can't ask them questions, and you can't pick what songs you want to learn how to play! :)
