A 5 point harnessed seat is much safer than a 3 point seat belt. At 2 1/2 years old I would opt to keep your child in a harnessed seat.
Most 5 point harness seats have a weight limit of 40 lbs. I would look into one that harnesses to a higher weight.
There are several seats that harness to 55, 65, and even 80 lbs.
Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe - $139 on sale right now - harness to 55 lbs, has 17.5 inch top slots, is made by Britax, has the same shell as the Britax Marathon for a fraction of the price.
Britax Marathon - $269, can find on sale between $209-$230 - harnesses to 65 lbs, has 17.5 inch top slots. I have this seat for my 3 year old.
Britax Decathalon, Britax Boulevard - priced upwards of $270-300 dollars. I believe these seats harness to 65 lbs.
Cosco/Safety 1st Apex - $180 - 190 - harnesses to 65 lbs, has 17-19 inch top slots (depending on each model) - can be used as a belt positioning booster after harness is outgrown - vehicle seat MUST have headrests to use this seat.
Sunshine Kids Radian 65 - $199 - harnesses to 65 lbs - has 18 inch top slots - one of the narrowest seats on the market.
Sunshine Kids Radian 80 - $299 - harnesses to 80 lbs - has 18 inch top slots - same seat as the 65, but rated to a higher weight.
Britax Regent - $269 - harnesses to 80 lbs, has 21 inch top slots, on backorder many places right now because of the Kyle Miller Video on YouTube - this seat is not FAA approved.

5 pt harness. If you put them in a belt positioning seat, there is always a chance of your vehicles seat belt malfunctioning and you child being ejected. In a 5 pt harness, they are tethered to the seat and the seat's restraints are what is keeping your child in the seat and the vehicle. You should check with state laws also. In Louisiana, your child must be 5yo or 50lbs (which ever comes second) before they get out of a booster all together. Hope this helps.

5-pt harness seats are MUCH safer for a child that young than a belt positioning booster.
Most children do not have the maturity to properly sit using a seat-belt (in a booster) until around 5 years of age.

I also have a Graco Nautilus 3-in-a million convertible carseat, and that i i like it too, it works super. and that i llike that u can use the 5 ingredient harness area til sixty 5 pounds, that's genuinely considered one of the utmost weights for 5 ingredient harness seats. and that i additionally love that it turns right into a severe back booster seat and a backless booster seat, so as that i won't hafta subject approximately buying yet another seat back, :D. wish this facilitates, :D
