Headaches can also be caused by dehydration, low blood sugar or lack of sleep.

So have a big drink of water, a light snack and lie down for a hour - hopefully you'll feel better when you get up! x

It showed that paracetamol is the same thing as acetomenophen (aspirin) so that limits you from a number of meds. Try drinking more water and using pressure points. This may help, but you might want to look for migraine meds, because it might not be just a regular headache. If all else fails, make a list of the stuff you've tried and ask your family doc.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. Do not take Ibuprofen, its the worst kind of pain killer anyone can take. You can take codeine but be careful because if you take it to often it can damage your liver, Aspirin damages the stomach lining and can thin out your blood. You should go down to the health shop and get some herbal teas. Chamomile is good for calming the nervous system. You can get a freezing block that you rub on your forehead. You may need to get your eyes tested in case this is the cause. If you have started your periods then this may be the cause, if so, there are painkillers that are designed for this purpose so get your mum to go to the chemist. Herbal remedies such as feverfew are very good but you must be over 18 to take them. You can also place an ice pack at the base of your neck this helps to calm the blood vessels (capillaries) that cause the pain

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

I usually use nurofen, but sounds like you have probably already tried that. An alternative medicine is something called tiger balm, think its of chinese origin, you can get it in chinese herbal shops and probably health shops. It is a bit like a lip balm consistency and comes in a tiny little tin and you rub it on the temples, i have used it a few times and it has always done the job, it can just be a bit hard to get hold of.

you could try Ibuprofen, which is in the same class as aspirin, but gentler on the stomach. both of these must be taken with food though to protect the lining of your stomach from irritation. But be careful as this class of drug can worsen asthma if you suffer from that.
The best advice really is to just pop to boots or tesco and have a chat with the pharmacist who will help you to make the right choice.

If you're under 16 don't take aspirin, I used to work at Boots the Chemist and we weren't allowed to sell it to under 16's as it can cause Raynards Disease in a small minority.
You could try ibruprofen, just the 2.
Or for a more natural remedy, try rubbing peppermint oil on your temples - that actually really works for some, my mum hasn't taken any painkillers for over a year with using that!

As previously mentioned in one of your answers try a small cup of coffee or a food substance that contains caffeine. This works because it cause the vessels in your brain to constrict (vasoconstriction). Most headaches are caused from vasodilatation of the vessels in your brain.

You may also want to consider massage therapy or Chiropractic care to help with your symptoms. You may just have a mechanical obstruction of vessels and nerve impulses to your head. I have treated many patients over 20 years with Chiropractic manipulation and massage therapy with success. Many of them had suffered for years and got relief with just a few treatments.
