I believe that the legal age of consent should be 18 at the minimum because by that time the adolescents should have completed high school and should have some skills to survive at a job whether it is entry level or technical. There should be no distinction between the sexes and no regard for customs and cultures. In fact, I protest that some cultures think only of reproduction and not the total person.Maturity is an opinion because a mentally retarded individual may be physically mature but not necessarily socially or physically mature. The law for obtaining a driver's license, insurance to drive a vehicle and signing legal documents maintains a standard without regards for incidentals.
