Check to see if you need to install Shockwave and/or Java.
You can install them free at

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi
and
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

most video clips and some animations require them.

Depends on the source of the video clips. A ggod all roung add-on is the K-Lite codec package which covers most file formats, and adds some functionality to Media player
