the immediate effect is that one has done his duty.
quite often, tho, on reflection there's a sense of guilt that one has killed another human being,regardless that it WAS the enemy. that guilt can linger the rest of one's life and be a detriment to that person.
counseling is often needed.

pride and sadness

i babysit 2 girls every other weekend and there dad is in Iraq. He has told him when you kill the enemy it is a great thing but its still killing and its sad
