If I have 2 Linksys Routers, can one of them be set up to function as an access point? WRT54G is the model number. If this can be done can someone explain how?
Also, Can the same function be used with the D-Link DI-524?
If so, can I connect the D-Link with the Linksys using one as an access point that can increase the range and signal of my wireless network.
I know I could buy a range expander or just go out and buy an access point, but since I already have these it would not cost me anything extra. Thanks~!

WRT54G's technical specs specify it can be used as an access point. > read the manual for help in setting it up.

D-Link DI-524's spec's don't say anything about being used as an access point.

It is the NIC (Network card) which establishes a connection with the Router using 802.11g. If the other routers have this capability to work as a routr and as a receiver as well then it is possible but I don't think such routers are avaialble in themarket now.

A wireless router uses an IP address and the connecting host uses an IP address from teh same range. If the receiving router gets that address and further splits it into smaller ones and forward it to the next host then probably it won't attenuate the signals and would work.

Just a thought.

No, you can't disable the router portion of the WRT54G. I don't know enough about the DLink, but I know you can't do what you're trying to do with the Linksys. I had to go out and buy an Access Point (which ironically, are more expensive than routers...don't know why).

I hate routers they suck and the wireless ones suck even more.

Why don't they just make them so they work first time ffs.

Read the manual. Most problems can be solved by reading the manual.
