I don't think anyone has hit on the most important point.....

If you have a laptop and it is able to run directly off the mains with the battery removed....do it! The reason for this is that only a few top end laptop batteries can take constant charging...so the longer you leave it plugged in to the mains the less charge your laptop battery will hold in the future. It makes complete sense to remove the battery after it has been fully charged if you are connected to mains power.

With some laptops, yes. With others, no. Some, albiet very few, laptops require the battery to complete the circuit, who knows why those few models were designed that way.

Give it a try, if it works without the battery then great. But I see no need for removing it from the machine, if you leave it in there you will have a nice battery back up incase the power goes out while you are working on something important.

No you don't. You need the battery when you are not at home..traveling. It is the battery which makes a laptop portable.

A laptop without a battery sounds ironic. Buy a laptop battery since it is not so expensive these days and will sure help you in the future.

majority of the laptops don't, but there are some out there that, for some reason, does not boot up if the battery is not plugged in. mostly older models, though.
