Great Question ... Looking forward to finding a answer. I, also have wanted to write a book. To see how I was at writing, I would often write Letters to the Editor or Opinions in local newspapers. I had several published & had many positive replies. My words even reached out to a inmate at the State Prison. Good luck on your new adventure, I'll keep up on your progress.

always use 12 size font. And it can be about anything. Do you know how many authors read a book from another author that they liked then all of a sudden got an idea to write it happens all the time and it isn't plagerism because you are writing your own work and chances are that it will be nothing like what you read. No one can give you an idea you have to have one of your own.

Whilst writing the actual book itself, I wouldn't worry about an official size for typing. Once you have secured a publishing deal and an agent, they will be able to advise you on the best ways to present your work. So at the moment, I really wouldn't worry about any "correct" sizes. I tend to use 13.5 Arial (I try and avoid serif fonts if I can as they are so much easier to read). I think it depends on what you feel most comfortable with.

For the font and size: Times New Roman, 12, is what publishers want. They like it doublespaced. It's easier to edit that way.
I recommed "You Can Write a Novel" by James V. Smith. I also recommend "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing for Young Adults" by Deborah Perlberg. Even if you're not writing for young adults, it's still very helpful. (And please take no offense at the title.)

It depends on the publisher, some want 10, some want 11.
If you're using Microsoft Word or something like it it's not a problem, write it in something that's comfortable to you and alter it when you find a suitable publisher.

Let me get this straight: you want to write a book, but you have no idea what to write about, brilliant! I am pretty sure that you need to have inspiration in order to write a book that anyone would actually read.

Clearly, you're too stupid to write a book. If spelling gives you this much trouble, you should stick to stripping or pole dancing or ice fishing, even.
Good luck!
