It is on the list for schools' banned books because of the racial issue in the book and the issue of assault. I think it's dumb to ban it because of that.
Banned books didn't start being banned until around the 70's/early 80's. It was a movement headed mostly by school librarians and teachers and some parents, who wanted to get a few books here and there banned. Now the list is over one hundred.

To Kill a Mockingbird was never officially banned in the US, but it has been banned in individual schools and libraries since it was published. In some places it is still banned or challenged.

It's an amazing book, it's sad anyone would want to ban it.
