The number of time zones a country will have will depend on their size (width they span).

Russia has the most with 11 time zones due to its large size.

There is 360 degrees around the earth and 24 hours in a day so if you divide 360 by 24 you get 15. So, each hour of the day gets about 15 degrees of longitude. The USA is about 65 degrees of longitude from east to west not including Alaska and Hawaii so 4 zones are used. If the the whole USA used 1 zone, the sun would come up at 6am in New York and 10 am in Los Angeles 4 hours later. it would come up at noon in Hawaii because it is further west.

The country is very wide and it would be impractical and inconvenient to have sunrise/sunset./noon all at the same time .The east might have sunrise at 5 am while the sun probably wouldn't show up on the west coast until 8 am or so. It would be very inconvenient.
