Our neighbor used to throw popcorn on his grass to feed squirrels and that attracted all the skunks in our area and of course sometimes they would spray. A mother skunk even gave birth under our house because of it. The way my parents got rid of it was to spread lots of moth balls around our house. They don't like the smell and they will leave within the day. Also skunks like the smell of cat litter and that could be what is attracting the skunks. If I were you I'd get some moth balls.

I looked at a few answers. They gave you ways to get rid of the odor. To get rid of the skunk you want to call animal control. They will come out, set up live traps, remove the critter, check it for disease and depending upon the health of the animal either euthanize it or let it go in an area better suited for wild animals.

The odor you may smell is the odor of two cats mating under your window. The way to correct this problem is either fixing your cat, keeping it in the house, or getting rid of it.

Skunks that cannot find a mate will mate with cats. You may not want to know the results of that mess. (I am not sure if it even takes but cats and skunks have been known to mate. I have never heard if a litter is produced).

Check the yellow/white/blue pages under your city for Animal control. They will best advise you.

I had a family of skunks around my house all the time. At first I thought my cats would get sprayed too, but the skunks ended up befriending my cats. They would eat together and even sleep together in the dog house that was on my deck.

DON'T SHOOT THE SKUNK!!!!!

Odds are it will release its musk when you do, and you'll still have the smell until it fades. Call a pest control officer or company, and have them live trap it and relocate it. Keep in mind that even if you can smell it strongly, it doesn't mean that the animal is in your yard - it could be several houses upwind from you.

Don't let the cat out unsupervised until the skunk is gone. They sometimes carry rabies.

One winter skunks moved in under our house..set up a skunk orgy under our bedroom...my little brother took two pistols and crawled under there and went to shootin.. he emptied the guns a coupple times, and each skunk spreyed as it was shot, and the fumes came up through the floor, and we had to move into the tack shed the rest of the winter. While standing out side listening to shot after shot ring out under the house, i saw many mice abandoning the building, they ran in circels on the snow, as tho they were blind, our cats came scrambleing out from any opening they could find, and my dad swore he was gonna kill my brother when he got hold of him.
The windows inside the house frosted over because it was cold out side,..every thing in the hose absorbed the oder and held it for many months,... our food stuff all tasted like a skunk, even the caned goods,... there were littel insects wintering in unknown places that got so disorganized they came back out into the rooms of all the house, and it impressed me how many other life forms lived with us in there.
The oder of skunk does a strange thing to peoples smellers, ...we eventually thought the oder had died off naturally, but it was commented on by visitors for well over a year.
My littel brother didnt get kilt, but he never did that again eather.
Our cats and dogs never crawled under the house any more eather, that i recall. And my dad had some workers put cinder blocks around the house like a foundation..that next sommer.. He say a ounce of prevention was worth a pound of cure, and i think he got it rite.
One of the answerers remarked that her animals and the skunks get along just fine...she is a good spirited woman... tolerent too.. and her answer is relivent...its better to let them have a place to live, than refuse them a time and place to exist with us.
Like her...i think a littel appreceation of nature is in order. We owe them that much respect and acceptance.

First to prevent populating the earth, get the cat fixed immediately.

To get rid of the skunk, go buy a tea ball (has holes in it but an animal cannot get the item out) and put napha (moth balls) inside. But it outside your window for a few days! If you don't want to buy and ruin the tea ball, get a glass jar, put in the moth balls, screw on a lid very very tightly and punch holes (very small) in the top. It will also keep other cats away.

Set up a live trap with tuna in it. When you catch him, through an old towel over the cage and relocate him. If your cat gets sprayed, wash her with diluted tomato paste or tomato juice.
