When China completely gets their act together, we had better watch out. They are going to be the Greatest Super Power.
Their people have been disciplined all their lives and for generations. They will hang in there until 'h-ll' freezes over no matter what the cost.

A lot of your criticisms of the U.S. could just as easily be said of China. Although there are some egregious examples of corruption in the U.S. (Tyco comes to mind), China has a far more corrupt system. What you call our "elite puppet masters" are not nearly as powerful as the Communist Party Ministers in China.
I think a lot of the Chinese "miracle" economy is more of a "mirage" economy. They have an extremely precarious banking situation right now; their outstanding loans are not sufficiently covered by assets. Their labor pool is almost slave-like. Their environmental record is appalling.
To a degree, I agree with the latter half of your criticism. We Americans have allowed a "political class" to emerge that is unaware of the populace whom they supposedly represent. Abortion is a perfect case study. Their are extremely loud and vocal minorities at the end of the Pro-Life/Pro-Choice spectrum. Most people between the radicals at both ends are not really that concerned with the issue in their day-to-day rights. Nevertheless, our politicians spend a disproportiate amount of time and resources assuaging either of these fanatical groups.
You can use the same methodology on several other issues, too.

I'm not sure I agree with your steps. I think that the United States must find markets for it's products and services the way China has. China may be an emerging superpower, but much of that is built on the U.S. dollar. Therefore, if we can work to remedy the trade imbalance with China--which is not easy--we will get a more secure footing. We should not rely constantly on Chinese investment, either. That is a country with a poor human rights record and a willingness to use force against its citizens. Unfortunately, we've gotten off task recently with our invasion of Iraq. I would say to rival China we need to focus on creating jobs and viable overseas markets.

Majority rule isn't a good idea. The minority have rights as well, that is why we have a Bill of Rights in the Consitution.
I agree that our main problem is corrupt Business and Government. Once upon a time, we made 50% of the world's GNP, and mostly with goods manufactured right here in the good old U.S.A.. Now we are less than 20%. We've dropped almost 1% a year. We're even getting our food from other countries...anyone ever taste Chilean fruit? Nasty stuff....tastes like cardboard. But we import it because its "cheaper" than stuff grown in Texas, Florida, or California.
Once upon a time, it use to be patriotic to employ Americans. To have American made goods. To embrace the American farmer. Now we sending our manufacturing to China, and our tech and customer support jobs to India, even though study after study shows that Americans work longer and harder hours for the amount they are paid.. They say our economy is going strong...but the bigger purchases, such as housing and cars, are already showing signs of going down the tubes.

No more SuperPowers. It's time to stop the pissing contest into the wind. America has nothing to gain by being the number 1 superpower. The phrase is powerless to stop people from suicide bombings, armed gunmen challenging our troops at home and abroad, or keep food in the mouths of the 30 some odd million people living in poverty; oops i mean "low food subsidizes" please don't come take me away big bad super power. Lets aspire to higher goals.

The Chinese are catching up very rapidly in the weapons area.
Don't think that their stuff is junk. Remember they have a looooooot of money thanks to our greedy businessmen.
At some point China will take Taiwan and there won't be a damn
thing we can do about it. If we don't get our financial house in order soon we will be answering to the Chinese.

The US is still the only super power. We may not have the number of troops in the military as China but our weapons are more advanced and more deadly.

China is the number 1 superpower? Wow, where the hell have I been my whole life? They may have more soldiers, but that doesn't mean that their military technology and capability is as advanced as ours. Size doesn't matter, it's how you use it.
