Turmeric and peppermints sound like great suggestions Chili power is another. Out of all the insecticides I have tried - Bengal Powder, in the tall can, is the best. Really does kill the mound but ants tend to just start a new mound a little further away so you have to keep at it till they move to the next yard. Also using one of those fertilizer sprayer attachments on your hose - plain water with a bit of laundry soap - sprayed over your entire lawn helps eliminate them. Soap gives them terminal diarrhea. It is a war for territory that can be won! Consistent obstacles is the key.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
