I am looking for a photograph of an old card catalog? the index card. I am having a hard time finding one because most librarys have there catalogs on computers now. Please help me out with a link to a photograph of what one of the old card catalogs looks like.

I went to google images and searched for "library card catalog" and "library 'card catalog'" and found some photos that might be of use to you. Here is the latter URL: http://images.google.com/images?q=%22card+catalog%22+library&gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=en&start=60&sa=N&ndsp=20

Hope this helps.

You may want to go to your local public library and ask if they have any "cards" left over. In the my library, the cards were pulled from the drawers and used as scrap cards. The library may also have some books on library history and the good old card catalogue will be featured in those! :)

You may also want to try "Googling" your search and click on Images. You will get some results. I have included 2 links from the same search.

Also, you may want to try an encyclopedia. There may be some photos, etc under libraries or card catalogues (it's a long shot, but worth a try).

good luck

A few months ago, I was at the Museum of Art and Design in NYC (Columbus Circle) and saw a fabulous exhibit on paper sculpture. That has got to be one of the most amazing collections of ideas for using paper that I have ever seen. Check their website Some of the stuff I recall: a "curtain" made from Rx inserts(those fine print tissue paper things that come with all meds these days), a St. George slaying the dragon paper sculpture- you had to get very close to see that it was paper and not some more durable material, a huge paper mache sculpture that looked like something splattered all over a wall (it was art- not junk). Simple ideas: house of cards type of sculpture.roll the cards into cylinders and see what your imagination creates. glue and decoupage onto paper and create sturdy book covers. glue a stack together and create bookends decorate and repurpose as book marks- maybe you could offer them back to the original library to use as fund raisers- libraries are hurting for funding and cutting their hours all over the country. try your hand at small origami boxes- they make interesting gift boxes for small items When you decide, could you post your projects, perhaps asking for input on what people might pay for them at a craft market. s
