The 4 year anniversary is "Linen". You know their lifestyle better than I but if they have a formal dining room how about a beautiful tablecloth and napkin set. If they don't have a that perhaps a tapestry done on linen. Sorry to be so weak but without knowing them it is very difficult to provide any real help.
Good Luck, both of my parents are dead and I live too far away to even visit the graves so things could be worse. If all else fails, as a parent I can tell you, a card and REALLY BIG hug would satisfy me.

In my family the only ones that celebrated an aniversary were the two having it. We never really bought gifts for it... but if you wanted to get something for them, then something they could enjoy together. if they like movies get them a movie they would both enjoy or a block buster gift card, or movie tickets, or if they like going out to supper then get them a gift certificate for a restaraunt they enjoy.

I had trouble finding my parents something nice too, one year I found a really nice picture of the two of them on their wedding day, that had been messed up a little with the years.. I got it restored, enlarged and framed and gave it to my parents.. they loved it.. maybe you'll want to do something similar of a picture of when they first started dating.. it'll bring them good memories when they see it..

Most parents like peace and quiet. Maybe after that a nice evening out having dinner.

I don't, never have done, and they don't want it; they feel that it's a celebration just for them, which is kind of sweet. Their bridesmaids and best man generally send them a card but that's it.
