Is the PS3 taking over? I wanted to buy a PS2 but feel that it might be a waste of time if the Sony will not make games in the near future.

According to Game Informer- PS2 was the second highest selling console in January (Right behind the Wii- which by the way beat PS3 almost 3-to1 in sales)

Odds are- even if it comes off the market- the second-hand market will remain fairly strong for the next year or two- so you would want to get familiar with it (if there are none near you, look up the websites for Game Stop / EB games)

You'll get allot more games for dollar- that's for sure

I did that with the N64 a couple of years ago and did not regret it-

If history tells us anything. The ps1 games were still being manufactured years after the ps2 came out. So I'd say for a hundred bucks you have a good library of games to choose from even if they were to take it off the market next year.
