I hate to be the bearer if bad news, but if you tore your ACL (that's what it sounds like). Then you may need to have surgery to keep from having life long problems.
Go to an orthopedic doctor and have them check it out. If it was a minor tear, or just your meniscus, you might be okay. Even if you tore something pretty badly, they may say you can have the surgery at your leisure. Once you tear it a little though, it won't take much to tear completely. If you do that, you won't be able to walk at all until you fix it.

My first suggestion is to see a doctor very soon. If that's not possible, there are all kinds of braces for knees, elbows, etc..usually at your local drug stores or even WalMart. Depending on how much you walk will depend on how long it'll take to heal, if it's possible without surgery. Sometimes surgery is the quickest way to get healed and back to normal.

Could be your MCL or LCL, I can not tell from the info (not your fault, I would have to see it). I can tell you from my work experience that you should quit while you are ahead. I know, it isn't manly to be a "quitter", but we'll see who's laughing when they are paying $30,000 for operations. I would limit the vagus and valgrus forces on the knee and use 15 minutes of really hot water on it a night for several weeks; see this through, it often helps people.

If you have a torn semilunar cartilage or cruciate ligament, surgery is the only answer. First see an orthopedist for a diagnosis.

You need to get it looked at professionally to make sure that you are not doing more damage to it. Self treatment can be risky. Until you get it looked at buy an elastic knee support and use that
