Global warming has two parts - natural global warming and man made global warming.

The earth goes through natural cycles of cooling and warming, it's always done this. Currently we're in awarming up phase which has been ongoing for some 18,000 years now.

Industrialisation in the last 200 years has had a dramatic impact on the rate at which the world is warming up and it's currently warming up at about 30 times the rate it would naturally.

Golbal Warming was first mentioned about 150 years ago but back then no-one knew anything about it or if it was actually happening. It's only in the last 50 years or so that serious debate has been ongoing. In the UK it's been a major issue since the 1970's and on many occasions it has been discussed at the highest government levels (Margaret Thatcher, the then Prime Minister of the UK addressed the subject many times). Until about 15 years ago most concerns have fallen on deaf ears, the public knew very little about it, the media gave it no attention, business turned a blind eye to it.

In the context of global warming being a threat you could say that since the mid 1970's the British scientists have not only been aware of, but have been very worried by global warming.

The Globe of Planet Earth undergoes cyclic changes of Climate. These cyclic changes are due ot the precession of the poles. Our present angular inclination has changed in such a way that now the Earth is receiving more Sun Radiation .The result is that the earth is now in a heating cycle. This has been known by Classical physists for a long time.
The real threat that we have now is really Global Cooling. This cooling effect is a great problem. It may cause lack of rain and famine thruout the earth.
The cause of this threat is the industrial polution which exhaust microscopic particulates to the atmosphere. These particulates are shadowing the earth from the Sun.Thus cooling results.
