Why do so many people who post to this site seem to make an automatic connection between being gay and being promiscuous?

I have even been told that a celebate lesbian (like me) is a "contradiction in terms".

Any sensible comments from anyone?

Bigots, homophobes, haters, etc. will always assume and spout the worst hatred and filth they can. It's what makes their small minds happy.
Inaccurate assumptions.

I can imagine what kind of person told you that ... lol.

Ignoring the over-all ignorance (no amount of telling will help some people), as we all know, the adjective qualifies the noun - basic English grammar, which works even if you call yourself a "lesbian celibate". Education today ... *sigh* ... however do they manage those long words in the Bible?

Hugs from another celibate lesbian (or vice versa).

I think most people are right when they say that it is a simple lack of understanding, and a reliance on ridiculous stereotypes. Tracy is clearly one of those people who simply have no understanding of what homosexuality actually is.

I'm new to YA - and I have been appalled by some of the nonsense I have read on here - especially from the Christian Right. We are living in the 21st century, aren't we?

Total lack of understanding. So long as people can think in stereotypes, life is easier for them; especially if those stereotypes make them feel morally superior - a state of being beloved by the "Christians" who post their pompous, smug, and self-righteous nonsense on here.

There is so much deluded crap on this site - just count your blessings that only one idiot (Tracy) answered this question.

I think Gay Lord is right; that they are jealous of the sex we aren't having. It is a typical stereotype which is promoted by the anti-gay lobby; who are pretty good at spouting out whatever people tell them instead of researching it on their own.

EDIT to Tracy below -- Why do you think that God didn't create ANY gay people. Science is pretty much PROVING that people are created gay. And if you believe that God created people, you HAVE to believe that he created gay people. The only conclusion that can be made from your statement logically is that God didn't create people, so I assume you are atheist?

people make assumptions based on societal myths and rumors. it's really sad that so many people allow themselves to be brainwashed into beliving things rather than investigating for themselves..

i am bisexual and i am a virgin. sex is not something i want to do unless i get into something serious.. and furthermore, i am not a promiscuous person either. i want one and one love only..

good for you to stand up for what you believe in. i bet you are one heck of an awesome woman and i'd be proud and honored to have someone like you as a friend..

Yeah your right.
I doubt if it is jeolousy though. That seems a common cop out any time someone has no answer.
it can be applied to anything from terrorism, hatred, and now sex.
You can refer to my question about misrepresentation of gays.
Unfortunatley it seems most missed the mark or avoided the question.
