Ironically these curious people are the same people who tell Gays to "stop throwing" our lifestyle in their faces.

People ask difficult questions to answer simply because they are difficult.
It is called interesting.
It is called curiosity.
Why do you find the question so disturbing?
I think as long as 'gays' are lobbying in Washington, doling their lifestyle into our household on television, working their agenda into our schools and into the minds of our children we not only have the right to ask why but we have a civic duty to do so.
Your being gay and why is not the root of the question.
The root of the question is why can't you just be gay and leave mainstream society to itself.
Instead you place yourself on the cover of mags and the tv screen and then wonder why everyone is looking at you and daring to ask questions about the issue.
One way or the other bud. You want peace and quiet then live in peace and quiet.
You want to change the nation against that nations will and you have some questions to answer.
Yours was a good question that deals with real issues. Good job.
A better question though would be why does your real question get 8 answers and some silly whacko spouting about a 12 incher gets 36?
I find the site a mirror of peoples mindset and maturity level.

I agree, you can't (and shouldn't) argue with someone's inborn sexual orientation, or skin color, or eye color - it's all the same.
Having said that, no one "changes their lifestyle" when they become an adult:
1) Being LGBT is not a "lifestyle," it's a life, and it's inborn.
2) If you are born LGBT, you are always LGBT. You don't change.
3) Some people take longer to realize and deal with their natural sexual orientation. This might appear like they suddenly "become" LGBT, but they were LGBT the whole time.
4) Being LGBT (or straight, for that matter) is not wrong and doesn't need to be "cured," which is impossible anyway.

why is everyone caught up on why someone is gay or how they got to that point?
Because humans are sadly a contrary lot. We just love to be in conflict over something. Used to be inter-racial marriage, before that women's suffrage, now it's gays, who knows what next will come, but to be sure it is an insufferable situation that some feel they can demand justification of someone else's life. I for one do not justify myself to anyone, never have, never will. All I demand of anyone is respect, I want nothing more and I will accept nothing less. On this point I do not negotiate.

Unfortunately, it matters because there are more heteros than there are gays or bis, and because majority members take advantage of their status to puff up their ego at the expense of minorities. I hate having to go into these discussions, too--I'm 50/50 bi and think all my attractions are equally okay, but the rest of the world doesn't. Maybe one day...

It matters to them because they are trying to figure out who/what they are---we've already told them who we are.
