My parents want me to choose business. I would like to study Kinesiology and become a strength coach or personal trainer. I've always been into strength oriented sports, and started weight training religiously at the age of 13.

I'm a college level junior, 21 years old, and being pressured into doing a field I don't have interest in. I could give a damn about accounting, finances, or any of that. I love working with people, and I love the human body.

Any help?

You cannot allow your parents to influence you on such important decisions. You know yourself much better than your parents...go with something that you'll enjoy over what your parents want...you'll thank yourself in ten years.

I just graduated from college (again....this is my SIXTH degree), and I am 40 years old (I wish they would have had "Yahoo! Answers in the 1980's !). Anyway, my first bit of advice is to FOLLOW YOUR DESIRES ! You probably love and respect your parents, and that is why you are having this dilemma. However, your adult life is going to be your own. There is no point in persuing a career you won't like.

Also, because "business" is an "easy" degree (sorry business majors....I don't mean to offend or step on any toes), but that is why a billion kids choose it in college...as opposed to engineering, medicine, law, sciences, etc. As a result, the market is FLOODED with business majors all looking for jobs. The competition is fierce, and unless you have a GPA of 3.8 or better, and a master's degree to go with it, you are stuck fighting with all the rest of them for a position.

Take it from an experienced person who has been in school in one form or another for a LONG time...choose something you LOVE, that is a bit more challenging than the rest, has a demand in the "real world", and affords you to opportunity to make the life and living you want...Kinesiology sounds PERFECT !

Be advised though, Kinesiology is NOT an easy degree. You will have to WORK, STUDY, and sacrifice beer and pizza to all hours of the night in order to make it work out. I think in the end though, you'll have a rewarding career and a very easy time getting a job after graduation.

Hope this helps...Good luck !

Do what YOU want to do!! Majoring in Kins and minoring in business is always a good idea. (You could also somewhat please your parents) If you want to become a personal trainer, you dont even a degree. You can go through ACE (http://www.acefitness.org/), NASM (http://www.nasm.org/) there are some others I cannot think of right now. However, if you want your Strength and Conditioning you do need at least a Bachelors.

You need to do what you are passionate about though. If thats Kins then thats what you need. Dont go into a career that you are going to hate.

First of all you should not major in something that you don't like. You have to think to yourself, is this something I would like to do for years or maybe until I retire? I'm sure your parents want the best for you, but you have to be happy with your career choice...if you feel this way about business now.....9 times out of 10 you'll feel this way when you are actually in your career....find time to volunteer in both fields, so that you will be able to see which field you truly like better.......hope this helps.

I feel your pain & I suggest you follow your heart. My parents wanted me to go in to Nuclear Science. I wanted to do photography & Journalism. They kept telling me that I could make $ & do my passion as a hobby. I listened to them & ended up dropping out of school. I hated it & I was not happy.

Do what is going to make you happy regardless of what they say. I would suggest you major in Kinesiology & minor in business. This will come in handy when applying to work for a private practice or so that you may open your own facility some day.

Whatever you chose, make sure that it is what YOU want. Other wise you will spend your life thinking... What if?

Good Luck! ;-)

I think you should explain to your parents how this is your dream job and how its something you love to do. What the point of doing something you don't like for the rest of your whole life? So just explain to them How you don't want to persue something your not interested in since you're going to doing that job almost your life. Good luck and be wise!

major in kinesiology and minor in business.
thers a great demand for both. ppl are getting fatter as you can see in america, they've got fat bulging out of htemselves in all directions, so personal trainers will be handy when trying to help the fat ppl lose weight (im fat myself if i offened any1).
business, there are so many demands for it. but some busnesses are loosing out to other franchises. but, business offers you more intellectual greatness as opposed to personal traiining which is more of a people to people contact thing.

pursue which ever career makes you happy, which ever is your passion, which ever wil elate you to the fullest
