To a large degree, it is. There are only a few countries that still hunt whales, notably Japan, Norway and Iceland. These countries use scientific research as an excuse to hunt whales, although it is almost certain that the creatures are simply being hunted for their meat and blubber.

Whale and dolphin meat are a delicacy in some Oriental countries, and can be bought in certain restaurants and seafood stores.

In 2005 Japan stated that it intends to kill 1 155 Minke Whales a year, this whale is not on the endangered list yet, but this is only one of the countries hunting it, and with a North Atlantic population of 174 000 creatures, it won't be long until it is.

Japan also announced plans to hunt a number of endangered species.

yes they are an endangered specie and have been hunted in excess and still are
people do not want to realise ,that we live in a closed collection of Eco systems ,and all the plants and animals are interrelated having evolved into a delicate harmony of species that all depend on each other for survival
braek a link in the chain and often the results cannot be foreseen
they once sprayed for mosquitos in the danube region and all the life from the woods disapeard
the mosquitos were an important factor in the food chain and thier removal had drastic effects
the whales alsoplay an important role in the eco system
their exstiction will also have drastic results .
maybe it is not obviousl but it is there all the same
SAVE THE WHALES

i'm a touch an animal activist, and that i hate searching and any inhumane treatment of animals. I beleive whale searching must be banned for everytone with the exception of the inuit. it really is a significant foodstuff source for the section human beings of the artic. The inuit do no longer over kill, or hunt for benefit. They hunt whales for survival, and use each thing of the creature. they're the in effortless words ones that would favor to be in a position to seek whales.

I'm just saying, everyone is saying "How can anybody kill such beautiful creatures" which i totally agree should be stopped. And Japans "scientific research into whales" should be banned to. But in China they eat dogs, In Australia we eat cows, goats, sheep, pigs, horses, kangaroos, crocodiles. Some places eat chimpanzees, Sun Bears (china), monkey's, fish (everyone eats seafood) not whales or dolphines. But tuna, lobster, crabs and all that could have feelings to you know. You see, it's quite easy to kill and eat beautiful animals, everyone does it. Then we turn around and accuse some other country of eating beautiful creatures and being cruel. When we do it just as frequently. After all, whales are simply animals.

yes i think whale hunting should be banned, we're doing GCSE science in the news coursework thing about it, it is unfair for whales to be killed for our benefits, they have a right to live freely and if they became extinct it would have a major effect on ocean life, and food chains etc

It is...in Oklahoma lol
seriously, it is, look it up. It's one of their state laws. "Whale hunting is illegal." But yes, it should totally be banned. I don't have much use for them, other than to watch them.

yes! definitely! they should be banned! whales, even though they're just animals, are living things just like us! God created them so they deserve to live and see the beauty of the world! they should be treated with respect! and because they're God's creation, it's definitely wrong to destroy them! I mean, c'mon! we're humans not demons!

Yes. If you ever saw one up close you would know that they are intelligent, warm blooded, caring parents, that communicate with each other and mate for life. Why would anyone want to kill these beautiful creatures?
