bring sun glasses. Try the Mayan ruins: Tulum. The best beaches are right there. but other places near by are really attractive. Xel-Ha and X´Caret.

I found it boring. Could have been a coastal strip anywhere in the world. There's even a lagoon separating the hotels from the town. For a more authentic vacation head further down the coast to "the Mexican Riviera", and DO explore some of the antiquities on the Mayan peninsula.

Don't stray from hotel areas, don't leave your group, don't go anywhere alone under any circumstances. Stay aware of your environment. Don't expect anything like US police or law enforcement.
