The best thing to do when you are considering any type of move to a new place is to fly out there and drive around the different areas. Florida is a pretty nice place in general, but it is very different from one place to another. In South Florida, you have pretty much all kinds of people and lots of people that come from up north. It has lots to do, but there is a lot of traffic and it is VERY expensive.
Central Florida is hit or miss. There are some great areas and some not so great areas. I am talking in terms of how well kept they are, not what kind of people live there. Florida is a diverse state and I am sure that it will become even more diverse throughout the years. Everybody just need to learn to deal with it and interact with one another. It is still very possible to buy something in this area, especially now because it is a buyers market. Don't expect it to stay that way though, because the population is estimated to double in the next ten years.
North Florida I don't know to much about, but I hear it's nice and the tempretures are a little cooler especially during the winter years.
I happen to love the west coast of Florida, but the prices are very high there now too. St. Pete is nice and close to Tampa, Sarasota is great, but high priced... there is plently to do and more and more work coming into the area.
I'd say say if you decide to come to Florida and you buy something, you will be making a good investment. Just plan to stay awhile and try to have a job lined up before you get here. The quality of jobs and earnings will rise in the next ten years. Good luck.
I gave you a link to a very good magazine that is all about Florida and the new things going on.

Predominantly caucasion?
Florida is a melting pot. There are a very high ration of hispanic and afro americans throughout Florida.
There are some small towns that are "primarily caucasion" such as Haines City, Lakeland, Palatka, Gainseville, and New Smyrna/Daytona Beach.
The big cities like Orlando, Maimi, and Jacksonville are metro areas that are very integrated.
I live in Deltona Florida which is a smaller town outside the big cities but within driving distance of Orlando or Daytona areas. Housing is more inexpensive and the school systems are A rated.
I'm a mortgage broker based out of orlando Florida and have been living in Florida for the last 20 years.
Hope i was of assistance

Wesley Chapel has some really nice property up there that has boomed and so does Brandon. I know lots of friends that moved out to Brandon b/c its cheaper out there than Tampa. There is a small town called Palm Harbor, and there is a High School there that is the top, or one of the top schools here in FL. The area is really quiet, and predominantly caucasian. Low crime in the area and you have Tampa and Orlando close by. You arent too far from customer service jobs out here. I know there is tons of em. Its small, but not 300ppl in the area though. Its middle-upper class area.
