Pontiacs are made in america and NO american cars arent bad. The pontiac spyder you are talking about is a Solstice. They are around $20,000-$30,000 but i prefer the Saturn SKY because is looks better and drives better than the Solstice.

To hear some people talk, American cars are the worst pieces of junk on the planet. Japanese cars like Toyota and Honda are so much more fuel efficient and reliable.

I say it's all baloney (or bologna, if you prefer). Pontiac is a GM brand, and GM is offering the 5 year / 100,000 mile warranty. Toyota and Honda are not. Last summer (the last figures I've heard) GM topped Toyota and Honda in initial quality.

As far as fuel economy goes, there are lots of arguments to be made. GM makes bigger trucks than any japanese competitor, so it's corporate average fuel economy is going to be lower. But that doesn't mean that GMs cars are worse than japanese cars in fuel economy. The Pontiac G5, G6 and Grand Prix all reach into the 30 mpg range. The crossover Torrent in All Wheel Drive form still reaches mid 20s. The sporty Solstice reaches 28 mpg.

OK, Toyota makes the Prius - the most successful hybrid so far. That's one in their column, not for its fuel efficiency but for its marketing. But they are also making their pickups and SUVs bigger, and those don't get the mileage that GMs products do. Honda advertises the best average fuel economy, but all their vehicles are small. GMs focus has been on ethanol, and IMHO E85 is where it's at until Hydrogen fuel becomes practical (GM is a leader in that area as well).

What does that mean? Well, it says to me that GM, Toyota, and Honda are all about the same, quality-wise and for fuel efficiency. GM offers a better warranty, and the Solstice is a sporty, stylish ride.

In fact, while I was typing this reply a customer came in and I sold one! It was $27,024 and had all the bells and whistles. You might be able to find one for less, some dealers are actually charging more than sticker.

That depends on the car. The Grand Prix is made in Canada, THe Van used to be made in Georgia but that plant closed.
Any car is BAD. Take care of it and it will be a good car. Cars are a combination of parts, and the manufacturer, GM for example doesn't MAKE the car there are hundreds of suppliers that supply the same type part to Honda, Toyota, Chrysler and Ford. So I see it as a choice of what fits you best then take care of it. I have a 97 FOrd Escort that has 156,000 mile on it...No major mechanical issues, new starter and new alternator, in 10 years that's pretty good....No real good.
