Usually people don't leave their country of birth unless they really don't like it there.

Generally people who are oppressed and/or abused by a totalitarian or socialist/communist government will leave (if they can) and immigrate to a new country that gives them the freedom to pursue their dreams.

Look how many die while trying to escape Cuba every day of the week. I would too. (unfortunately they send billions back there every year to keep their relatives from starving to death.)

If somebody wants to immigrate from his own country, it means he believes he would be happier in some other country. Now, if he moves to another country and is happier there, he did good. If he discover that he was happier in his mother country, he will come back and be happier in his own country. So, in any case its worth trying if there is a wish to immigrate. Advantages of this try is learning new language, meeting new people, new culture, starting new life if previous experiences were too painful...

You can live in another country and keep your citizenship and not have to pay taxes. Although, unless you live in an oppressed country, it can be very expensive. Alot of people say it's cheap to live in Mexico, but you need to be careful. In Japan, you need to have a very good paying job in order to afford to live there.
