My mum has just given up after 45 years of smoking, if she can do it your dad can. Tell him to go to the doctors and get all the NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) he can, the nicorette inhalers are a god send for my mum, she feels so much better after a week. He doesn't have to go cold turkey to do this.

If he has cut down to 4 a day, he must be trying very hard to quit.
Nagging will make it worse
smoking plugs up the small arteries and veins,
Some relief comes from eating chile peppers, I appear to have regained some circulation in my hands and feet
I quit a 5 pack a day habit after smoking 55+ years

It is so difficult to stop smoking, they say heroine is easier to come off.
I hope his doc has put him on an asprin a day. That thins the blood and improves circulation.
I stopped smoking at 60 years old and never felt as ill. It's a great shock to the system not having an intake of nicotine. I piled on four stone. I started again two years later and I feel back to normal. I am on asprin and tablets for high cholestrol.
It'll have to be his own decision, the more you nag someone to stop, the more defiant about it they become. He'll decide for himself soon.

there really is nothing you can do to stop your dad from smoking. the same happened to us and my mum banned smoking in the house but he just became an underground smoker sneaking cigarettes whenever he could, it really has to come from himself, he has to want to give up and you can't want it for him, i do know what i am talking about, i gave up nearly three years ago from smoking 30 a day, i used patches but we are all different, my son smokes and he can't give up even though his girlfriend hates it and nags him everyday.
give your mum and dad lots of support and understandin, he is only jumping down your throats because at this moment in time he can't pack in completely and probably feels bad enough and scared enough as it is. keep strong and dont nag whatever you do. If nagging worked then the world would be a non smoking world. chin up and give them both a cuddle.

First thing he`s panicking that's why he jumped down your mam`s throat ask the doctor to help him give it up patches or tablets etc if he still wont listen take him along to a hospital where they only treat cancer Its enough to frighten anyone into stopping smoking
When you see just how many people who have lung Cancer in their forties and fifties you realise how it could easily be you

He needs to want to stop smoking and to help himself. The point I would make to him is that IF he REALLY is down to four a day, then he is close to quitting and why not do so to improve his overall health and particularly the circulation problems he is suffering. Don't nag him, but DO keep encouraging him to stop. Tell him you are scared and do not want to lose him because he is so young. That may help. Good luck!!!

Ask him if he want to live to see your wedding. Or be able to be there for the birth of your children. If he still can't stop stop talking to him until he does.
