Hi, I have a silver molly that I added to my aquarium yesterday (125litre tank with 4 sunset platys, 3 oto's, 4 amano shrimp and 2 silver mollys) and I have noticed today that when she isnt actively swimming, she floats with her nose pointed in the air. She doesnt appear to be stressed and appears to be healthy. Its just this vertical floating thats odd!

Many thanks for your help!

If she's floating vertically, she isn't healthy.
I don't know what illness she has. Does she have other symptoms? Rapid gill movement? Loss of fins? White spots? Cottony growths? Does she snap out of it sometimes, like to eat some food?
Where did you buy her from? Stores like Walmart and Petco carry notoriously unhealthy fish.

It could be a problem with the swim bladder preventing her to level herself properly. The only way I know of to help the problem is by feeding 2 deshelled thawed baby peas twice a day until the problem goes away. Swim bladder issues are actually quite common in aquarium fish purchased from chain pet stores like PetSmart and Petco. The same goes for Walmart. These places usually don't have people properly trained and there's never really anyone there considered a "fish expert". Also the tanks aren't maintained very well. Swim bladder problems could occur due to poor diet, constipation, or over feeding. Hope this helps.

Your fish is probably fine. i had a black molly that would just lie on the bottom of the tank and would only come up for food but he lived for like seven years.
