It really just depends what you are all wanting to do. As the first answer said, you really need to spend a long time in one location to see everything it has to offer.
In order to appreciate the area and see a good range of what it has to offer, I would say that 14 days should give you enough time. If you plan to do Disney, you can spend a lot of time there. I would say at least a week just to see a good majority of what Disney has, it really takes longer than that. You also have other parks, and many, many things in the area, the beach isn't too far, etc.
I would say that 14 days is going to give you a good amount of time to see a lot of things. But, the more time you have to spend there, the better. Also, it will depend some on when you plan to go. If you go during summer time, you won't be able to see as much in two weeks as you would in the off season in two weeks.

Disney World is the main attraction in Orlando. You can easily spend a week there if that's what you really want to do.
There are also a crazy assortment of restaurants. International Drive is a good place to start looking for food.
There's Sea World as well. Wet and Wild. Universal Studios.
Downtown Orlando has a variety of nightclubs if that's your thing as well.

Don't fool yourself into think you're going to "appreciate the area." A week is the most you need to visit all the good tourist places. If you want to actually "appreciate the area" you have to live there for many years, just like any location. :)

if you've never been to disney thats like 14 days alone, but if your just doing Orlando as a city with no theme parks or things of that nature, then about 5 days should do
