do i need a passport to move to another country? i read that as per JAN 2007, all FLIGHTS will require passport if to another country, and as of 2008 all foreign travel (land air sea) will require a passport.. my question is: IS THERE ANOTHER WAY?? or what shipping company can i go through? for those of you lacking an education, i
guess, EMIGRATE = to leave...IMMIGRATE = to come into..i am not immigrating as i have no specific country in mind. i am EMIGRATING because i am leaving or wanting to leave the U.S..

Not possible.
Why are you trying to get out of the country?
If you have a good enough reason I would talk to authorities and see what my options were.
What country are you trying to get out of?

you need a passport to travel. you only have the RIGHT to live in the country of citizenship. To live as a permanent resident in another country, you have to get that countries equivalent of a "green card". They make the rules and they do not have to allow anyone permanent residence status. Most countries will deport you, including Mexico, if you overstay a tourist or student visa. This is something you will have to work out with the country you intend to go to, preferably before leaving. If you have useful skills, that can really help, very few countries are looking for hippies or refugees. Many countries have an embassy in the US that you can visit, and most have on-line information as well.

If you are a US citizen, there are very few reasons why you won't be issued a passport on request. The US does not require an exit visa to leave, but it does prohibit travel to certain countries. Failure to follow instructions could land you in jail upon your return. Beware that international travel can be quite risky for people with "green card" status in other countries, having a US passport even if living abroad is very important. The US has embassies in foreign countries, so you can keep your passport current. A lot of Americans are "expatriots" the term used when they live abroad, retirees especially enjoy the better climate and reduced living costs that some countries offer.
