I think u heard right, its the palm leaves from previous years, as a matter of fact I even heard that you could burn your old palm crosses & use those ashes yourself if you cant make it to church. . . not sure though.

They get the ashes from people who were cremated today or yesterday. Of course they have to have the family's consent to use them.
