Buy him clothes that are like yours. If you would wear one layer and short sleeves so will he. If you would wear short sleeves under another layer, so will he.
Dress baby how you would be comfy. If you're cold, so is baby, if you're hot, so is baby.
Onsies, both long and short sleeves are excellent for under sleepers and little outfits.

How you dress your baby boy is really up to you, they make all the "miniature adult" style clothes for newborns (jeans, etc) but I don't recommend that...my feeling is that they will have their whole lives to wear jeans, why not let him look like a baby for the short while that he'll actually be a baby? Plus, baby baby clothes seem so much more comfortable. My son is 8 months old and we just now bought our first pair of jeans. Stick to things that are soft - definitely lots and lots of onesies, you can get both long and short-sleeved. If you go outside you can always put some soft cotton pull-up pants over them - this works better than outfits that are pants and t-shirt - the shirts ride up, get twisted around them, etc. Onesies stay in place much better. Also, look for things that are tagless, where the label is just printed on the inside of the garment. Sweatshirts or sweaters for layering. Lots of socks. Although some socks tend to fall off...Also, get a lot of the sleep n' plays, which are footed one-piece outfits..that way socks aren't an issue. At night we liked the sleep "gowns" - they made diaper changes easier. Um, you'll need hats as well - just a couple to keep his head covered, although the one they give you in the hospital is great, we kept a couple of those, and they stretch so they actually still fit him! Good luck!

Congrats! I myself have a four-month-old out here in Kansas and I've got her wearing a onesie, and over that I put either jammies, (she does well with cotton or fleece) or normal everyday clothes like jeans or cotton pants and a long-sleeved shirt. When I take her out I put on a jacket. And if it's going to be really cold, I will wrap her up in a blanket. I also include a hat. That about usually does it. Since you're not due until the middle of April, you're looking at milder weather, so just dress the baby how you dress and don't forget to account for wind.

My daughter was born in summer. During the day she would wear a onesie, or a onesie-type shirt with some soft comfy pants. At night she wore the newborn gowns or a sleeper when it was a bit chillier. I don't think items like jeans are necessary that young, simple and comfortable is better. I bought most of my newborn clothes at Walmart, the Child of Mine clothing was soft and comfy and sort of mix-and-match. (And really cute, too!) In cooler weather, a sweatsuit-type outfit is ok with a onesie underneath, or they have onesie-type long sleeve shirts and pants to go with them.

i have a 3 week old and live in texas, our weather is crazy but has gotten down to 12 degrees and to be honest u won't be taking baby out much (i'm assuming) u will always put an extra layer on baby then what u are comfortable in. i put our baby in a onesis along with gowns and socks ALOT OF NIGHTGOWNS AND ONESIS just a few little outfits. i don't think u will use many jeans until older.

They wear what you put them in.
There are TONS of clothing out there for babies, and all of it is adorable. We put our daughter in jeans, onezies, little outfits they have, and sometimes, just the play rompers. The rompers you can get in packs of two or three for around $10, and they sell them in different weights. They work great for pajamas or regular clothing.
I myself am not fond of a baby always looking like they are in pajamas, so I shy away from the footed pants or outfits. Our daughter wore pants, shorts, shirts, dresses (little girl. . .), and the like during the day. You can find just about anything you like now days. Our daughter was born in August 2005, so she wore shorts and the like for her first months. Do what you think is best - mommy always knows best.
Congrats and good luck!!

Upto three months, the best is onesies or gowns with a blanket wrapped on top. Maybe one or two dresses/ pants for special occasions, but these are hard to get on and off at this age.

Go to Babies R Us or a similar store and look in the newborn section. They should have clothes appropriate to the season on sale.

Onesies and "sleep n plays". Gowns are great for nighttime, as they make diaper changes so much easier. He'll definitely need warm socks..
