If you caught last Sundays 60 minutes you would know the Kurdish region of Iraq does not have any fighting, bombing, or other forms of violence. They think of the US not as occupiers but liberators. Their economy is booming. Can someone explain why?

Because the Kurds are pretty much running things. My brother was in that region during one of his trips over there. He had to quit carrying a weapon while running around in the towns. Seems the towns people were alarmed.

The Kurds don't tolerate the two other bunches causing trouble in their region.

Kurds are a separate ethnic group. Actually, the Kurds would like to have their own country, but much of the Kurd territory is split between Turkey and Iraq. The fighting in Iraq is between the Shiite and Sunni Muslim groups. That doesn't involve the Kurds, who would rather not be involved.

I'd suggest the following site.

The Kurds have been fighting for independence since before there WAS an Iraq and both Turkey and Iraq (including the time Iraq was under British rule) have treated them like unwanted step children. They have a very strong cultural sense and do not tolerate others who want to rule over them.

After Gulf war 1, the no fly zone was created to protect the Kurds. Saddam wanted their total destruction. Their economy under our protection flourished. They had many years to get ahead, they took advantage of it. Saddam terrorized the sheites yet gave the sunnies the best. Although he got the most. In the end, the Kurds just got a long head start. Thanks to us. Just give the rest of Iraq the time. They've lived through hell. And it takes time to change.
